Abstrakt (Fulltext in Czech available on the CZ version of our website) The study presents the situation of dance researchers in the Czech Republic and reveals the socio-economic conditions under which the profession of dance researcher is currently carried out. The information was obtained through qualitative research based on in-depth individual interviews with ten respondents cooperating with research organisations. Based on the data analysis, the author divides the conditions affecting the work of the researcher into four categories: intellectual, institutional, family and health/ physical background. It turns out that a satisfactory institutional background, including adequate funding, is central to the prac¬tice of the profession, but this is lacking in reality. Most of the respondents combine research activities with other work duties in and outside the field, doing research in their spare time with limited financial support. Research is thus primarily stimulated by intrinsic motivation.
