Abstrakt (Fulltext in Czech available on the CZ version of our website) This study presents aspects and interrelations of cognitive and physiological processes during practicing and production, enabling musicians a deeper understanding of their impact on musical expression. Findings from different scientific disciplines are integrated into a harmonious whole intended to facilitate musicians to find a unique and effective path to musical preparation. Facts and methods presented aim at the proper connection of body and mind leading to flexibility and ease in performing, or further musical and spiritual development. The study is not an attempt to present groundbreaking findings or universal solutions, but to put simple and functional mechanisms in a broader context from the standpoint of an active contemporary percussionist. Aiming to present a comprehensive and clear picture of playing techniques and approach to practice, I verified my findings in practice over a long period. The continuous examination and assessment of the findings led me to the conviction that the research results used in the artistic field can be applied analogously in everyday life. Imagination is largely derived from the idea of life, or the ability to be inspired and to express this experience through music. The degree of tension released in the body is inseparable from the calming of the mind, bringing along a better focus and the ability to be aware of the present moment. This has repeatedly proven to be an effective path to relaxed and mindful musical expression.
