Abstrakt (Fulltext in Czech available on the CZ version of our website) The study documents the beginnings of the artistic career of the Czech dancer, ballet master and choreographer Augustin Berger. From 1878 to 1881 Berger danced at the German Royal Provincial Theatre in Prague and worked his way up from the ballet corps to the position of solo dancer. In 1880, after great success in Vienna, the theatre engaged the flying dancer Miss Aenea (Mouche d’Or) for guest appearances in the titles: Around the World in 80 Days, The Bat, Mr. President and Light Cavalry. At the time, Berger was offered the job of replacing Mr. Ward, Mouche d’Or’s dance partner in that time, whose contract was coming to an end. He accepted and together they toured Paris, Toulouse and Milan. Above all, the study clarifies and sets the record straight on a number of inaccuracies and ambiguities in Berger’s Memoirs describing this phase of his life.
