Abstract: In 2007, American musicologist Robert Gjerdingen published Music in the Galant Style – a fundamental study in which he introduced a new analytical approach to the music of this period, based on so-called “schema prototypes.” According to Gjerdingen, these melodic-harmonic patterns form the underlying framework of compositions in the galant style, i.e., music composed roughly between 1720 and 1780. This often overlooked period in music history represents a crucial bridge between the late Baroque and early Classical eras, marked by an emphasis on elegance, clarity, and rhetorical expression. The present study examines the applicability of Gjerdingen’s modern analytical method to the work of a lesser-known Czech violinist and composer, specifically the first opus of Václav Vodička – Sei Sonate a Violino Solo e Basso (1739).
