Abstrakt This study focuses on the tectonic principles of 20th century music. A general tectonics scheme has been created which aids the author to discover and discuss some of these principles. The reciprocal relationships of musical structure are often neglected and so they are primarily concentrated on here. Musical examples were chosen from the dodecaphonic compositions of Anton Webern. The author believes that in many cases Webern’s compositions are typical for the musical thinking of 20th centrury and he reflects on the relationship of musical thoughts and tone material; musical kinetics and tone material and the tone material itself.
